Objective: To construct the Clinical-Epidemiological Form for Postoperative Endophthalmitis associated with cataract surgery.
Methods: Study of technological development and innovation in health, with a mixed approach and sequential design by stages. A scoping review and documentary analysis were carried out following the PRISMA-ScR statement and the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute, with a search in MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, LILACS and CUMED. Based on the evidence recovered and the current institutional protocol, dimensions, variables and items were defined, and the digital format of the form was designed.
Results: The documentary search identified 340 records and the synthesis included 21 sources. The extraction produced 30 groups of variables. The preliminary version of the Clinical-Epidemiological Form for Postoperative Endophthalmitis was composed of 78 items in 13 dimensions. The surgical dimension provided 21 items; asepsis and prophylaxis, 10; general data and therapeutic conduct, eight each. The form incorporated closed answers, temporal and numerical fields, categories for missing data, and conditional jumps. The content map and the operationalization of variables linked each item with its surveillance purpose and its source of information.
Conclusions: The Clinical-Epidemiological Form for Postoperative Endophthalmitis integrates in a coded structure the clinical, surgical, prophylactic, microbiological, therapeutic, and evolutionary components necessary for the surveillance of postoperative endophthalmitis associated with cataract surgery.
