Abstract

Meibography is a non-invasive technique that allows the morphology of the meibomian glands to be evaluated in vivo, without the need to touch the patient. In recent years, it has undergone significant in terms of its application in research and clinical practice. With the aim of assessing the usefulness of this technology in the diagnosis and follow-up of different conditions of the ocular surface and eyelids, it was decided to carry out this analysis. A search on the subject was carried out taking into account the bibliographic descriptors corresponding to the key words related to the subject matter of the research, in the following databases: Medline (Pubmed search engine), Scielo, Ebsco, Clinical Key and Google Scholar; 20 articles were retrieved that corresponded to the research topic. The evolution of the numerous techniques is described, as well as, the different classification scales of their results and their diagnostic relevance. It was found that it is a diagnostic tool that allows the interpretation of images automatically, objectively and in a time-saving manner. It is useful in the in vivo study of the Meibomian glands. However, in the literature consulted, no research was found in Cuba demonstrating its advantages and benefits.
