Nursing Performance in Ophthalmological Emergencies

Objective: Identify the nursing interventions carried out on people treated in the emergency service at the Ramón Pando Ferrer Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology.
Method: A retrospective cohort study was carried out based on the nursing records of people who attended the Emergency Service in the quarter of 2023 and 2024 to identify the nursing interventions that are carried out most frequently at the Ramón Pando Ferrer Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology.
Results: Among the main nursing interventions identified in the emergency department were eye washes, the administration of impregnation doses, the instillation of eye drops, the application of ointments and bandages and the administration of intravenous medications.
Conclusions: A total of six most frequent nursing interventions were identified in the first quarter of both years, among which the application of bandages, eye washes and the administration of intravenous medications stand out.
