Objective: To evaluate the results of surgical treatment of senile entropion by lateral tarsal strip with CO2 ablative laser.
Methods: A longitudinal and prospective descriptive study was carried out with 43 patients seen in the oculoplasty office of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital between February 2022 and February 2024.
Results: The most represented age group was 76-84 years old, male sex was predominant (69.8 %). The defect in both eyes was present in only nine patients (20.9 %). Minor defects were present in 55.8 % and major defects in 44.2 %. The mean operative time was 21.8 ± 4.7 min. By the third month, 83.7 % of the patients had improved their initial symptoms. Suture tears and hematomas in 4.7 % and chemosis in 2.3 %.
Conclusions: Surgical treatment of senile entropion by lateral tarsal strip performed with CO2 ablative laser succeeds in correcting the palpebral defect and restores the anatomy of the lower eyelid. It is a safe technique; intraoperative and postoperative complications are present in a low percentage as well as recurrence of the palpebral defect.
